Providing a Gateway to Abilities from Disabilities 865.317.GATE INFO@GATEWAYTN.ORG
DONATE

Whether through monetary donations or volunteering within the program, dedicated support from throughout our community has insured that the Gate is a viable program from our opening day in 2004. We have been fortunate to keep our fees affordable for our participants while still providing stimulating activities and a caring, qualified staff.

How You Can Help.
Enroll at the Gate Criteria for enrollment: Our enrolled participants must be 22 or older, live in Blount County, and have a significant disability. Significant disability is a subjective term, but translates to a person who cannot live or work independently. Consequently, the range of abilities is broad. Several participants attend our program with a nurse or a special assistant. These personal assistants are needed because of health issues, feeding issues and/ or hygiene issues. The Gate’s staff does not perform any medical procedures, assist with personal care such as diapering, and are not licensed or permitted to give any medications.

Get Involved How can you get involved? The Gate offers many volunteer opportunities. All that is asked of a volunteer is to be yourself and enjoy the time you spend with participants. Volunteers are welcome to come and spend an hour or a day. The Gate is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm. We also need volunteers to assist with tasks such as reading, taking photographs, speaking about the program, designing pamphlets, helping with fundraisers and even other tasks off site.
