provides adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who reside in Blount County the opportunity for socialization and independence without bias.
Our day program operates three days a week and runs August through May. Participants can attend up to three days per week. We strive for our participants to feel connected to a strong, encouraging, social community while fostering independence. Our staff and volunteers spend one on one as well as small group time with participants
Individuals enjoy movies, chatting with friends, meeting people from the community, playing games, bowling, Special Olympics, music and more!. In addition, the primary caregivers are provided a few hours of respite from their full time caregiving responsibilities
When students with disabilities exit a school system at graduation, they quickly lose connection with their community of friends, peers, and teachers. Consequently, many young adults with disabilities spend a great deal of time at home and become isolated from those outside of their household. The Gate was founded to provide positive social interactions for each individual in a safe, friendly, and encouraging environment. With our caring staff & volunteers, participants not only enjoy stimulating activities, but they also participate in a positive social outlet and are presented with the opportunity to develop their own unique abilities.
